Southampton
Sky Ride: Roads at the heart of Southampton were
closed to motor transport back in the summer to allow a 4-mile traffic-free
route taking in key sights. Over twenty members of our Scout Group took part
with a dozen intrepid cyclists leaving the Scout HQ to cycle there and back
the hard way - via the swamps of Rownhams Woods and the tracks of
Southampton Sports Centre. After a few laps of the course we enjoyed a
leisurely picnic in the park and then did a few more laps before our journey
back to Baddesley. A great time was had by all and we plan to do the same
again next year.
First Aid Training: It was the weekend before
Halloween and in a dark clearing in the woods fourteen Scouts from across
Romsey District were addressing a matter of life and death – they were
attending a first aid training weekend at 15th Romsey Scout HQ.
Friday kicked off with some ice-breaker games, which
helped us to get to know each other before diving straight into an
introduction to first aid and learning some life saving techniques. Saturday
was split into many short sessions, which included videos, demonstrations
and discussions – in each session the Scouts learned some new skills before
practising them in small groups. Throughout the day we covered
unconsciousness, circulatory and respiratory conditions, environmental
conditions and injuries as well as
