15TH ROMSEY (NORTH BADDESLEY)
The Explorer unit built up to the end of term with an
evening of raft building, a beach barbecue and an evening hike in the
New Forest. Several of the Explorers worked on their canoeing skills
towards the end of term as they aimed for their BCU 1* and 2*
certificates. Now at camp in East Sussex they are enjoying an activity
packed week under canvas. A group of our Scouts competed in the Pulborough
Trophy camp weekend in June. Some good old fashioned scouting skills
along with a lot of hard work saw them improve on their last year’s
performance coming in a fantastic 12th place. In the Ian Grainger Trophy
they came a brilliant 5th. Several scouts have been working on their
PaddlePassport canoeing qualification. Lighter evenings and fantastic
weather enabled the scout section to pedal off for an evening on a
13-mile cycle ride. Two patrols are now at camp, coincidentally at the
same place as the Explorers. With activities planned for each day, they
should be having a busy week. Following another successful term, Cubs had a
wonderful camp in Lockerley along with their friends in the Nursling and
Rownhams Pack and had a lot of fun with the Hawaiian camp theme and a
rather large inflatable assault course! Our Beavers made the most of the lovely weather
towards the end of term with evenings spent on Emer Bog and pond dipping
at Crampmoor. Group Matters Our group Annual General Meeting was held on 12th
June following our "Junior Sports" session and a cream tea. The sporting
highlight for everyone was the very competitive "field gun running"
competition using miniature field guns.
