Wondering what to do, a young lady appeared from the village hall next door and said she had seen two adult rabbits running around the grounds. Someone had dumped these rabbits and released the two adult ones leaving the young ones in the box. Several people tried to catch the rabbits unsuccessfully so the young lady took the 4 baby rabbits to the Blue Cross Centre in Southampton. Later that evening the two adult rabbits were caught and taken (we hope) to be reunited with their babies. Quite a day for our volunteers coping with a busy shop of customers and rabbits! We have since heard from the lady who helped with looking after the rabbits. Apparently after the mother rabbit was caught later that day, mum and babies were reunited that evening. The baby rabbits prospects for survival were much improved and she is a very good mum. Ten days after mum’s arrival she had seven more babies! The original babies went to two lovely homes and in the near future the rest of the babies will be ready to go to new homes. A sad story with a very happy ending. |
