Anti-Social Behaviour

In response to concerns raised by the community a street surgery took place in Borden Way and Firgrove Close on June 17 and 18. This was in relation to a rise in damage complaints and anti-social behaviour, since the footpath opened on the new estate.

Concerns were also raised regarding the child’s swing park in Carpiquet Park. Residents fear this will be a gathering place for local youths. If you have any concerns about this, please let a member of your beat team know.

Criminal Damage/Graffiti

Fleming Avenue is still an area where we are focusing our attention and efforts. In the last beat report, we asked for your help in identifying the individuals responsible for the spate of graffiti in and around the Baddesley area. People have been identified and arrested, and are currently on police bail. Thank you for your continued efforts, we will keep you updated with the progress.

This damage has had a huge impact on the look of the neighbourhood, and considerable expense in for the parish council and local residents to have it removed.

You may have become aware from the "Daily Echo" about an incident involving an imitation hand gun which was reported in May 2008, at the skate park in Castle Lane.

We would like to reassure you that this is not the picture of gun crime as painted by the article.

This incident, while I accept the impact on the aggrieved, was in fact a group of misguided young people who have irresponsibly taken a BB gun to the local park and acted irresponsibly with it.

There was no criminal intent, and this is not an incident that should cause concern for the local community. The learning point for those concerned, and in fact the message for the rest of the community, is to be aware that to have any weapon in a public place that is an imitation firearm or indeed looks like a firearm and therefore likely to cause the community concern, is an offence, even if that weapon is a toy.

The young people have been dealt with in a proportionate way by the police and Youth Offending team.
